Structure

V-ます(bỏ ます) ＋ かける／V-ます(bỏ ます) ＋ かけの＋N

Expresses an action that has begun but is not finished, i.e. in the middle of it. The forms 〜かけの＋N (読みかけの本) and 〜かけだ are also common. Not used with verbs of instantaneous action.
