〜ものだ

reminiscence: used to ~; exclamation

Exams tested in: 15 exams
Structure: V-た＋ものだ／V-ない＋ものだ

Recalls past habits and memories with nostalgia (V-たものだ). Goes with 昔, 子供のころ, よく. It also has an exclamatory sense (how ~!) and expresses general truths. Not used for something that happened only once.

Examples

子供のころは、よく川で遊んだものだ。When I was a kid, I used to play in the river a lot.
学生時代は、毎日図書館に通ったものだ。In my student days, I used to go to the library every day.
