上る（のぼる）

to amount to; to go up

A quantity or sum amounts to a large figure: 被害額は10億円に上る. Usually used with に; differs from 登る (climb a mountain) and 昇る (sun rises).

Examples

今回の事故の被害額は百億円に上るという。The damage from this accident is said to amount to ten billion yen.
