Intransitive verb: 事故が起こる, 問題が起こる (an unexpected event occurs). The transitive verb is 起こす. Different from 起きる (to wake up; also used for events occurring).

Examples

この交差点ではよく事故が起こる。Accidents often happen at this intersection.
大きな地震が起こった。A big earthquake occurred.
