〜さ

degree; level; -ness (nominalizing adjectives)

Structure: い-adj(bỏ い) ＋さ／な-adj(bỏ な) ＋さ／いい → よさ

Turns an adjective into a noun indicating degree or an objective quality that can be measured or felt (大きさ, 暑さ, 大切さ). The adjective いい becomes よさ. Compared with 〜み, 〜さ is more neutral and more widely used.

Examples

大きさは違うが、君と同じかばんを持っているよ。The size is different, but I have the same bag as you.
子供に命の大切さを教えなければならない。We must teach children how precious life is.
